Headcanon for AU Liquids
One thing to remember is that Liquid, any Liquid, is held up by three basic tenants: He's prideful. He's cocksure. And he's angry. A canon Liquid has all of these in spades, including an unhealthy dose of insecurity that the pride and cockiness is trying to hide and fuels the anger. But what happens when you mess with his past? What happens when you make him live far longer than he should? How does all of this change a canon Liquid Snake?
He won't ever lose any of that. But the levels change. He may be less prideful, or less angry. A Liquid that won against Snake, that lived and went on, may be less angry than his counterparts. One that has had no victories, or may have come straight from his time as a POW in Iraq, may be less cocky. One that has had to live by scrimping and scavenging may have less pride. But note the word choice here. A Liquid that won will not be rid of his anger completely. There may be less, but it's still there. He'll still break and show the psychotic anger under occasionally. A Liquid right from Iraq may be less cocky, but it'll come back quickly and he'll still show a bare sign of it right away. And if Liquid was basically homeless his entire life and had to scavenge to get anything, his pride might be different or less, but it would still smack you in the face at the worst of times.
In these cases, it's a fact of moving the excess around. A Liquid that won would be more prideful and cocksure than a canon Liquid. He won! He kicked Snake's ass. He would be a pompous asshole about it. POW Liquid would be more angry. How dare they capture him. How dare they torture him! A homeless Liquid would be more cocky and angry. Snake got to live in a home. Sure, he managed to live even if no one took care of him, but how dare they just abandon him.
You can apply this to just about any Liquid. Was actually the one they chose to be Solid Snake instead of being told he was a reject? Oh holy shit, run away from the diva. He would be so cocksure that Dante Sparda would tell him to tone it down. In this case, all the excess anger he would have had would have been thrown into pride and cockiness. And he'd be insufferable. Couldn't make it into the military due to physical reasons? Yyyyyyyeah, walk away from the ticking time bomb. He'd be good at what he does, and incredibly cocky about it, but he would be a simmering ball of anger. Decided not to join FOXHOUND? You're looking at pride so big that Lilith and Lucifer would be impressed, and they fell because they had so much pride about what they did (Lilith not wanting to submit to any man, and Lucifer only bowing to God).
Always ask yourself what part of the triad would be affected for your AU. Would he have to give up his pride to live? Would he have been smacked around so hard it would take a while for the cockiness to come back? Would he have a reason to not be so angry about the world, something that happened that made him happier? But also remember that by taking something away, you have an excess you have to distribute first. Never forget that.
Physically deficient Liquid Snake.
In Fission Mailed, we had a Liquid Snake that had someone pissing in the test tube that caused him to be a bit physically deficient. Now, with the triad of what makes a Liquid Snake, what would that mean?
Of course, you'd be looking at someone would be incredibly prideful and cocky about what he could do. He would find what he would be good at, and with the fact that he does have a genius IQ, he would be good at quite a bit. He would be a neat hand at various non-physical activity, and would rub it in people's face that he could do this. You probably would get a hacker far beyond Otacon and Sunny combined, and with enough pride to skate on from England to America.
You'd also get a little time bomb.
If Snake wasn't the same, wasn't physically deficient, then he would have a horrible time trying to overshadow his twin in a military setting and failing. Now, this wouldn't be his fault, and he could do things Snake couldn't. But Liquid is not the type to let a little thing like his own body keep him from kicking his brother's ass. He does not let things like that go. Liquid lives on the principle of "Anything you can do, I can do better." Even if he couldn't make it into the military, he'd still work out. He'd still try to become as buff as his twin Snake and overtake him in a physical battle. And he would become more and more frustrated that he couldn't do it. This is where the anger from the previous headcanon would come in. He would be one angry asshole. Liquid Snake is the son of the legendary Big Boss! A genetic clone! OF COURSE HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE HIS TWIN IN A FIGHT!
Liquid probably wouldn't have his time as a POW to break him this time. But other things would do it. Why did Big Boss reject him? Was it because he wasn't physically up to it? Was it because he wasn't good enough? This should torment him. Everything about Liquid is perfection. And this should be what sends him off the deep end.
